Verónica Matiz is a Colombian contemporary sculptor whose practice explores the expressive relationship between material strength and human fragility. Holding a Master's degree in Visual Arts from Javeriana University, her artistic journey began in painting before evolving into sculpture through an ongoing exploration of form, texture and materiality.

After studying Fine Arts in Florence and undertaking independent studies in Rome, Matiz experimented with engraving and three-dimensional forms, gradually moving beyond the canvas. Returning to Colombia, she continued her studies at Javeriana University, where her interest in gesture, scale and physicality led her to incorporate unconventional materials into her work. Influenced by artists including Richard Serra, Frank Gehry, Eduardo Ramírez Villamizar and Edgar Negret, she found sculpture to be the natural language for her artistic vision.

Working primarily with steel, bronze and copper, Matiz transforms industrial materials into refined abstract forms that balance strength with delicacy. Her sculptures investigate movement, tension and resilience, revealing the emotional and poetic qualities that emerge through the dialogue between material and form.
