Ellie Lasthiotaki is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice moves between painting, sculpture, and installation, with painting remaining central to her work. Her approach shifts between abstraction and symbolism, with the sea returning persistently as a way of thinking through memory, movement, and emotional states. Rooted in her Greek heritage and shaped by living across different cultural contexts, she approaches landscape not as a fixed geography but as a felt terrain — psychological, fluid, and interior.
Within her work, the sea functions as a threshold: a space of uncertainty and longing where questions of migration, belonging, and transformation quietly surface. Through layered surfaces and restrained colour palettes, images emerge gradually — much like memory itself — fragmented, shifting, and softly blurred. Atmosphere leads form; stillness holds presence.
While her work acknowledges vulnerability and impermanence, it is grounded in care and a profound affirmation of life. Lasthiotaki is drawn to what endures beneath disruption — tenderness, resilience, connection — and to moments of pause that carry emotional weight. Rather than depicting specific locations, her works offer contemplative spaces that invite viewers to slow down and sense their own inner landscapes.
Lasthiotaki has presented numerous solo exhibitions and participated in international art fairs and group exhibitions across Europe and Asia. She is a four-time finalist at the Taipei Art Competition and a recipient of the Taipei Award. Her work has been featured in international magazines and exhibition catalogues, and in 2023 she was included in the National Gallery of Singapore Benefit Auction organised by Phillips. She is currently represented by galleries in Singapore and Europe, with works held in private collections internationally.
